Work with me

Hire

Five things people book me for. If your job is somewhere between them (it usually is), say what you have and I'll tell you straight whether I'm the right person for it.

Two ways in, and I'm equally happy either way. Hand me a chart (staff notation, a chord chart, Nashville numbers) and it gets read and played as written. Or hand me a rough demo and no direction at all, and I'll find the part the song is asking for.

  • Live performance and booking

Available to performing arts centers, festivals, jazz series and presenters. Chaos Magick is a standing seven-piece with violin and cello, built around long-form original composition; the Brandon Scott Coleman Trio and Quartet have played together for over ten years across six records. Solo and smaller configurations available.

  • Session guitar

Remote or in-room session work on guitar, keys, bass and vocal harmonies, delivered in whatever DAW format drops cleanly into your session. Send a chart (staff notation, a chord chart, or Nashville numbers) and it comes back played as written, first time. Send a rough demo with no instructions and it comes back interpreted.

The short version

The specialisation is range plus reading. At one end, Appalachian and roots playing with Barnweaver and Ben Sollee. At the other, guitar soloist on Frank Zappa's Revised Music for Guitar and Low-Budget Orchestra and G-Spot Tornado with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and Juan Trigos' opera Ella-Miau: two separate engagements, both demanding the kind of rhythmic density and sight-reading that rules most guitarists out.

For a contractor or a producer that is the whole pitch: the charts get played as written, the session does not stall, and the same person can cover a folk date on Tuesday and a notated one on Thursday.

Questions

Can a presenter or festival book one of his bands?
Yes. Chaos Magick is his own standing seven-piece — guitar, violin, cello, piano, bass, drums and percussion — written for as an ensemble rather than a rhythm section with guests, and documented live at Memorial Hall in Cincinnati in January 2026. The Brandon Scott Coleman Trio and Quartet have a decade of shared repertoire and six records behind them. Smaller and solo configurations are possible. The press kit at /press has bios, photographs and quotes in one URL; start there or get in touch.
Does he travel for concerts?
Live dates are regularly in Cincinnati, Kentucky and Ohio, and he travels for the right project. Get in touch with the date and the room and you will get a straight answer.
Does Brandon Scott Coleman take on session guitar work?
Yes: remote or in the room, on guitar as well as keys, bass and vocal harmonies, delivered in whatever DAW format your session needs. His session playing has been placed on ABC and Netflix programming, including DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
How good a reader is he?
Reading is the specialisation, not a footnote. He was the guitar soloist for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra's Summermusik programme of Frank Zappa's Revised Music for Guitar and Low-Budget Orchestra and G-Spot Tornado, and has played Juan Trigos' opera Ella-Miau: two separate engagements, both at a level of rhythmic density and reading demand that is out of reach for most guitarists. At the other end of the same range sit Barnweaver and Ben Sollee. If a date needs someone who will play the chart correctly the first time, that is the whole proposition.
Can he write string or orchestral arrangements for my record?
Yes. Arranging and orchestration is one of the two service lines. His orchestral arrangements have been performed by the Louisville Orchestra, and he arranged and co-wrote with Ben Sollee on Long Haul (2024) and Time on Hold (2026). Work ranges from a single string pad on a track to a full orchestral chart with the parts extracted.
Will he transcribe a recording into a lead sheet or a score?
Yes: transcription and score preparation is an offered service. A recording, a demo or a voice memo becomes readable sheet music, engraved and parted out. Twelve of his own compositions are also available as PDF scores in the store.
Does he mix and master, or produce whole records?
All three. Mastering for streaming, CD or vinyl; mixing priced on the state of the session; full production days with him in the room shaping arrangements and running the band; or a single package covering production, engineering, mixing and mastering end to end, which costs less than booking each piece separately.
Where is he based, and does he work remotely?
He is based in Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky and teaches at Northern Kentucky University. Arranging, transcription, mixing, mastering and remote session work all happen at a distance as a matter of course; live dates and in-room production are within reach of Cincinnati, Kentucky and Ohio, and he travels for the right project.
What does it cost?
Rates depend on scope (track count, ensemble size, the state of the recording), so the full rate sheet goes out once there is something specific to price. Get in touch with what you have in mind and you will get a real number, not a range.
Is this the Brandon Coleman who plays keys with Kamasi Washington?
No. That is a different musician, as is the Brandon Coleman who fronts The Red Clay Strays. This one is Brandon Scott Coleman: guitarist, composer, arranger and producer, based in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
